Perlmutter Votes No on Republican Debt Raising Bill

"I don't believe we should pass a bad law that adds to the debt and has no realistic way to pay for it."

Washington , DC -- Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) released the following statement regarding the House Republicans' vote to raise the national deficit by $168 billion over five years by extending the payroll tax.

"I don't believe we should pass a bad law that adds to the debt and has no realistic way to pay for it," said Perlmutter. "These are tough economic times for all of us, but Americans work better when we work together. This bill and the constant Republican games are bringing chaos from order, and we can't continue this Republican-led brinksmanship. We need jobs for Americans now; we need certainty in our economy now. We need a balanced plan that focuses on both sides of the ledger, closing tax loopholes for billionaires, responsible spending cuts, and bringing in more revenue to our country. That way we can get back to the real work the majority of Americans elected us to do -- innovate, educate and rebuild America 's infrastructure for sustained prosperity for all."

House Republicans continued their last minute political games today by passing a bill to extend the payroll tax which they know the U.S. Senate will reject because it adds to the deficit and forces our seniors and the hardworking people in the middle to pay for it.
