Frazier Calls on Perlmutter to Oppose One of the Largest Tax Hikes in History

31 Dem colleagues have already pledged opposition

Wheat Ridge, CO – Ryan Frazier, candidate for the 7th Congressional District, today called on incumbent Democrat Rep. Ed Perlmutter to join his 31 Democrat House colleagues in opposing one of the largest tax increases in American history. The tax increase is scheduled to go into effect January 1, 2011 if Congress refuses to act.

“I understand that Ed votes with Nancy Pelosi 98% of the time, but he should oppose these tax hikes,” Frazier said. “Our fragile economy, and Colorado taxpayers, cannot afford to be nickel and dimed by this Congress.”

The tax increases will negatively affect small businesses, investors, and American families. The personal income tax, capital gains tax, and the death tax will all increase without an intervention from Congress and the White House.

A new U.S. Census Bureau report released today found that 1 in 7 Americans, or 43.6 million people, now live in poverty – the highest level since 1994. The report also found that the poverty rate among the working-age population, defined as ages 18 to 65, is the highest since the 1960’s.

“Our poverty rate is completely unacceptable,” Frazier concluded. “Businesses need regulatory certainty to invest and create new quality jobs for Americans.”
