Bennet: Kagan’s Experience, Intellect Will Add Perspective and Depth to Supreme Court

Washington, DC – Michael Bennet, U.S. Senator for Colorado, announced today that he would be voting in support of Solicitor General Elena Kagan’s nomination to serve on the United States Supreme Court:

“When I met with Solicitor General Kagan, I was impressed with her intellect, demeanor and accomplished résumé. We had a productive conversation on her judicial philosophy and her approach toward deliberating cases as a member of the Supreme Court. In her testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, she demonstrated a pragmatic, non-ideological perspective and an appreciation for legal precedent and the Constitution, as well as a firm grasp of how the law affects the lives of the American people.

“The Senate has no more important responsibility than to advise and consent on nominations to our nation’s highest court. The Supreme Court is too important not to hold our justices to the highest standard of intellect and achievement—a standard Ms. Kagan meets. The diversity of her experience and accomplishments will add perspective and depth to the deliberations in the Court chamber. I have confidence that Ms. Kagan will dutifully serve our nation and be a model justice.”
