Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter requested to be appointed to the new Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction to help determine ways to reduce our national debt by at least $1.5 trillion.
In a letter to Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, who will appoint members from the House, Perlmutter stated, "I believe the JSCDR would be well served from someone from the Rocky Mountain West. I bring a can-do spirit to the table and the belief that failure is not an option. We will find a solution that... will preserve the greatness of our nation, and will not balance our budget on the backs of seniors or the hard working people in the middle."
The letter highlights Perlmutter's experience as a bankruptcy attorney in negotiating complex financial matters and developing long term financial plans.
"The best way to reduce our deficit and stabilize and grow our economy is to put people back to work," said Perlmutter. In the letter he stated, "I can help negotiate the framework for businesses to thrive and most importantly support jobs, entrepreneurs and small businesses.
