Perlmutter to GOP -- Stop playing politics and do what's right for America

Tonight, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) released the following statement after the President's address to the nation about the looming default crisis... "In our country, we elect leaders to serve us -- not their political party. Yet, Washington Republicans are playing a game of politics with our retirement accounts, jobs, and economic security simply to continue tax giveaways to billionaires. President Obama is negotiating in good faith and offering many different, bipartisan solutions to pay the bills we owe and to find responsible cuts and savings for the future. Washington Republicans keep moving the goalposts and are driving us closer to economic catastrophe only to satisfy their extremist Tea Party members. It’s clear the Republicans are focused on clashing with President Obama rather than working on bipartisan solutions or creating jobs.

We need jobs for Americans now. We need certainty in our economy now. Washington Republicans need to spend less time walking out of negotiations and more time helping put people back to work."
