After a vote to increase the debt ceiling failed amid bipartisan opposition, Rep. Cory Gardner (R-CO) released the following statement: “Tonight’s vote proves what I have been saying all along - there is no support for increasing debt without cutting spending. Republicans were given a majority in the House for a reason, to change business as usual. Without real spending cuts and budget reform, there will continue to be bipartisan opposition to raising the debt ceiling. After tonight’s vote, I am more optimistic that the President and Democrat leadership will get serious about negotiating specific spending cuts and enacting real budget reforms.”
