Perlmutter: Get People Back to Work and Make Things in America

“Energy efficiency measures and Planned Parenthood didn't create our debt, but that's where the Republicans choose to focus.”

Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) issued the following statement regarding the Republican 2012 budget proposal.

Perlmutter stated, “Some people say the Tea Party Republican budget is a new, bold budget. I say it's the same old Bush budget, with misplaced priorities on giving more unpaid-for tax cuts to millionaires, billionaires and oil and gas companies while slashing investments to spur job creation and energy independence in our country. It destroys Medicare and Medicaid, leaving seniors with an additional $6000 in out-of-pocket expenses each year. Meanwhile, most of us are making the tough decisions about how to pay for gas at the pumps and get the critical medical care we need.

Energy efficiency measures and Planned Parenthood didn't create our debt, but that's where the Republicans choose to focus. Our debt came from unpaid-for tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires, two unpaid-for wars and not policing Wall Street.

The best way to reduce our deficit and grow our economy is to get people back to work and make things here in America again, and invest in our energy independence. That will create the revenue we need to move forward toward long-term economic stability, security and sustained job growth. "
