Perlmutter Votes to Protect Individual Freedom

U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) voted to protect individual freedom provided by the Affordable Care Act passed by Congress last year. In an extreme move, House Republicans voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act which provided all Americans access to quality, affordable health care.

Below are Perlmutter’s remarks on the floor of the House. Click here for the video/audio of his remarks:

“We are here again to begin debate on the repeal of the health care bill passed last year. In that bill Democrats provided freedom. It ensured freedom from discrimination for pre-existing conditions and freedom to move from job to job without losing your insurance. Those freedoms are now the law of the land in America.

They’re all based on the equal protection laws of the 14th Amendment. The Republicans, in a very radical and extreme move, want to have Americans forfeit these freedoms.

We can't have that done.

Republicans talk about saving money. But they're prepared to repeal an act that saves America $230 billion.

What we need to be focusing on in this country is how to restore jobs and our manufacturing base and get people back to work in this country. If we make it in America – we will make it in America.

We can't allow this repeal to take place. I urge a no vote.”
