Congressman Gardner sworn in, co-sponsors key legislation

Washington D.C. – Rep. Cory Gardner (R-CO) was sworn into the 112th Congress today and wasted no time signing onto key legislation to balance the budget.

“Balancing the budget is the first step towards reducing the deficit, paying down the national debt and learning to live within our means,” Rep. Gardner said. “It is time to stop paying lip service to this concept and take the bold step of actually practicing fiscal responsibility.”

The need to balance the federal budget was a constant theme heard during Rep. Gardner’s listening tour of Colorado’s 4th Congressional District. Co-sponsoring the balanced budget amendment was a top priority for Rep. Gardner, who signed onto the legislation just after being sworn in. Simply put, the amendment requires that total federal spending shall not exceed total federal receipts each year. The measure would also require that the President’s proposed budget to Congress be balanced when submitted.
