Joseph "Joe" Garcia is the pick for Lieutenant Governor for Hickenlooper

I'm proud to announce that I've selected Colorado State University at Pueblo President Joseph "Joe" Garcia as my pick for lieutenant governor. Joe's experience in higher education, problem solving, and his diverse professional background are exactly the qualities Colorado needs in a leader to address the significant challenges facing our state.
As a husband and parent, Joe knows the importance of leaving a stronger, more vibrant Colorado to the next generation. Together, we have the experience to tackle two of Colorado's biggest challenges: creating jobs and fixing our education system.

Joe has a proven track record of non-partisan, collaborative leadership that Colorado needs to come together and solve our major challenges. As president of CSU-Pueblo, Joe has grown enrollment and improved retention rates, all the while maintaining fiscal responsibility within the school's budget.

Prior to his work at CSU, Joe was president of Pike's Peak Community College, the second largest community college in Colorado with three campuses that serve over 16,000 students annually. During that time, the Colorado Community Colleges State Student Advisory Council twice named Joe "President of the Year."

Born into a military family, Joe spent much of his youth moving from town to town. He earned a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Colorado at Boulder and juris doctorate from Harvard Law School. His love for Colorado brought him back in 1975 where he and his wife Claire have raised their four children ever since.
