During this election year we have many politicians vying for our precious time. My question for all of them is how do you plan on keeping all of those campaign promises you are making? Too often a candidate is making promises that they would have no authority to carry out, so we vote for them and are extremely disappointed with the outcome.

City Council postpones moratorium vote until July 16

PUBLIC INPUT SOUGHT ON PROPOSED LAND USE CODE AMENDMENTS

COMMERCE CITY, COLO. – City Council unanimously postponed a vote on Ordinance 1880 until July 16, 2012. If passed, the ordinance would have established a six-month moratorium on oil and gas activities within the city. In continuing the ordinance, council directed staff to complete the proposed land use code amendments within the stated timeframe.

Brian McBroom named as new city manager

COMMERCE CITY, COLO. (April 16, 2012) – The City Council unanimously approved the appointment of Brian K. McBroom as Commerce City’s new city manager tonight. McBroom, who has served as the interim city manager since December 2011, will receive an annual salary of $155,000.

In Letter to State Department & USTR, Udall Urges Economic & Diplomatic Efforts to Stabilize Oil Markets

Concerned about rising gasoline prices that are hitting Colorado communities hard, Mark Udall asked Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador Ron Kirk to further explore practical solutions to protect American families, companies and jobs from rising gasoline and energy prices. In two separate letters, Udall advocated for the State Department and USTR to explore existing economic and diplomatic opportunities to improve global oil market stability and to advocate for free and competitive energy trade. Today, Mark Udall joined a group of senators in introducing legislation to help put an end to secretive campaign spending. The DISCLOSE Act of 2012 attempts to address the problems caused by the Supreme Court’s decision in the Citizens United case by requiring disclosure of anonymous campaign donations that keep the truth of potentially harmful agendas from Coloradans.

City Council continues vote on oil and gas moratorium for 60 days

Staff DIRECTED to draft regulations, Memorandum of Understanding for consideration

COMMERCE CITY, COLO. – Tonight, the City Council of Commerce City unanimously voted to continue Ordinance 1880 for another 60 days. If adopted, the ordinance would have imposed a six-month moratorium on any surface or subsurface use for the conduct of any oil and gas operations that include hydraulic fracturing or drilling activities within the city limits.

Senate Passes Employment Opportunity Act today

DENVER – Today, the Senate passed Senate Bill 3, the Employment Opportunity Act sponsored by Senator Morgan Carroll (D-Aurora). The Employment Opportunity Act prohibits abusive credit check practices that unfairly limit a Coloradan’s ability to find employment. Many employers currently use credit reports in hiring decisions, which can prevent many hard-working Coloradans who have low credit scores from finding employment.

Eva Henry
Eva Henry has lived within the Thornton community for over 38 years. She was raised and attended school here. Throughout this time, she learned the value of hard work and giving back to her community. Many of these years were difficult, as Eva struggled as a single mother raising two children, Maurice and Danielle, on her own. Eva recognized the value of her community and the help she received from her neighbors and her children's educators. She always taught her children to give back to the community and never take from it, as this is the foundation to strong communal ties. Eva has spent several years in community service, actively engaging in working family issues and volunteering in the schools. She has a great passion for Thornton and chose to serve her community in City Council.

In accordance with C.R.S. 1-7.5-105(1.5)(b), Adams County Clerk and Recorder, Karen Long, invites the public to comment on the proposal of conducting the 2012 primary Election by mail ballot. Colorado law allows for primary elections to be conducted as mail ballot elections, but before making such determination, your comments will be taken into consideration.
